Annual Meeting Celebrates Progress and Welcomes New Leadership
The UAA’s virtual annual meeting on Tuesday, August 27, provided the opportunity to reflect on the organization’s achievements. President Brandon Hughson addressed attendees with a review of the past year’s accomplishments and set the stage for an exciting future.
“Reflecting on the progress and initiatives that have defined the UAA over the past 12 months, it’s clear that our committees have excelled in achieving their objectives with remarkable efficiency,” Hughson remarked. “This success has enhanced our overall direction, propelling us toward our goals with renewed vigor. We have the right people in key positions, and our unified sense of direction and confidence in our leadership ensures we are on an excellent trajectory.”
Looking ahead, Hughson emphasized that the UAA stands on solid ground with a clear path forward. The association’s commitments remain steadfast, and the community is more active and engaged than ever.
A significant highlight of the meeting was the transition of leadership as President-Elect Matt Goff formally took the virtual gavel from Hughson. Goff expressed his deep appreciation for the trust placed in him and shared his vision for the year ahead.
“I’ve always known this day would come, and I’ve learned as much as I could from Brandon over the past year to understand the business of UAA,” Goff said. “Thank you for entrusting me with this leadership role. My focus for the upcoming year will be on three critical areas: international, regional, and local support for vegetation management.”
Goff outlined his commitment to expanding the UAA’s role as an advocate for vegetation management professionals globally. With members in over 25 countries and nearly 7,000 strong, along with 1,800 attendees at events, the UAA is uniquely positioned to foster a robust network and facilitate access to experts.
At the regional level, Goff plans to advocate for UAA events that allow members to exchange ideas and adapt techniques to their local areas, addressing issues like fire risk and natural disasters. His aim is to enhance advocacy and advance the business of vegetation management, driven by a passion for the field.
“My goal is to help members engage fully with the UAA, find committees that align with their interests, and work together to make meaningful advancements,” Goff added.
The UAA bid farewell to esteemed Board members Kevin Puls and outgoing Past President Tim Walsh, extending gratitude for their invaluable contributions and leadership that have greatly shaped the association’s success. Cindy Devlin Musick was welcomed to the Board of Directors, along with Craig Kelly, who was voted in for another term, and Kimberly Laing steps into the role of vice president.
As the UAA embarks on a new chapter, the association remains committed to its mission and is poised for continued success. The enthusiasm and clear direction set forth by both Hughson and Goff promise a dynamic year ahead.
