These professionals have demonstrated dedication and hard work throughout their journey, benefiting from the robust educational opportunities provided by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point courses. For many, the program has significantly impacted their professional growth.
Joseph Bumpus, an associate program manager at Clear Path Utility Solutions, shared how the coursework helped refine his skills: “The courses at UW-Stevens Point were great classes and I had a great experience. The most helpful skill was the different types of communication covered, public speaking, for example. I have really seen an increase in my communication skills, which is helpful across the board professionally. In the last year in particular, the coursework really helped support my work and career goals.”
Similarly, Sarah Hendrix, a senior utility arborist at Southern California Edison, reflected on the personal growth she experienced: “I have now crossed the finish line. It has been a challenging journey that has encouraged me to grow. Thank you, Utility Arborist Association, for offering a beneficial program. I highly recommend anyone wanting to grow their career within the UVM industry to enroll.”
Jessica Connor, a field quality control program manager at PG&E, highlighted the value of the program’s structure and its relevance to her role: “The UVM program allowed me to expand my knowledge and learn from a diverse group of industry professionals. The structured yet self-paced format made it manageable while still being highly engaging. Where I work, there is a big push to be ISA Certified which is great, but this program really brings everything together. It starts at ground level in the foundations and eventually I found myself presenting to the UAA board an entire UVM program including maps, inventory, budgets, and maintenance plans. It’s a great feeling to accomplish and finish the program.”
Liz Westberg, a manager for quality assurance and training at Growth Solutions, spoke about the unexpected insights she gained: “I can say that while the course was different than what I expected when I first enrolled three years ago, I learned a ton about the basis of our industry, and the complex issues that inform the decisions to manage a UVM program. In my current role, I have already applied what I learned to help vegetation managers and foresters achieve their program objectives.”
