A message from President Brandon Hughson:
“Recently the UVM family has been shaken by news reports of senseless violence occurring on tree worker job sites across the landscape. The UAA is a resource for the UVM industry and in response to these events we wanted to draw awareness to safety resources members could leverage for limiting exposure and impacts of unexpected violence in the field.
Upon review of our resources, it became evident we currently have limited tools available. This realization brings with it the opportunity to enhance resources addressing the potential of emerging worksite violence across the entire arboricultural field more holistically including training, preparation, as well as response. Utility arborists have access to security resources many other branches of the arboriculture family do not.
The UAA Executive Committee is requesting and challenging our industry safety professionals to address threats or acts of violence entering worksites through our Safety Committee to create or identify tools, training, and resources to be made available to the entire arboricultural family.”
